O'Hanlon commits for second year at the Rhinos

Northern Ireland captain and two-time Super League Champion Caroline O’Hanlon is heading back to the Rhinos for her second season in blue and amber after being a virtual ever-present for the team in 2023.

O’Hanlon joined the Rhinos after winning the Super League title with Thunder and missed just one game all season, despite suffering a shoulder injury in the later stages of the season, and her versatility to play at centre and wing attack proved crucial for the Rhinos.

The 39-year-old has represented Northern Ireland in three Netball World Cups and two European Championships.  She captained her side in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which was the third time she had competed in the event.

The Newry-born player started her Super League career with Team Northumbria in 2014 and she went on spend a season with Sirens in 2018 before signing for Thunder where she played for five years and won two Super League titles.

O’Hanlon combines her playing career with her job as a General Practitioner and Gaelic Footballer, playing inter-county for nearly two decades with Armagh Ladies.  She is a three-time All-Star and was named as Player of the Year in 2014.  Her achievements in netball and Gaelic Football saw her win the Northern Ireland Sportswoman of the Year in 2010.

Speaking about rejoining the Rhinos, O'Hanlon said: "I am delighted to re-sign for Rhinos for 2024! I feel we have unfinished business and hope we can build on the momentum we gathered towards the end of last season. We have an exciting mix of world class experience and fresh young talent, so can’t wait to get going!"

Leeds Rhinos Director of Netball, Liana Leota said: "When picking our team I needed to make sure I had experience in each area of the court and players that could not only bring that experience on the court but could also mentor the next generation.  Caroline provides us with that in the mid-court.  Not only can she play centre but we used her at wing attack last year. Caroline is tenacious, hard-working, never gives up and you know she will always put her body on the line."
