Former Rhinos captain inducted into Welsh Sports Hall of Fame
Former NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball captain Nia Jones has been inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame, recognising her outstanding achievements as a dual-sport international athlete and broadcaster.
Jones joined NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball for the 2023 season, making 14 appearances for the franchise. She made her debut against Saracens Mavericks and recorded 7 interceptions and 11 turnovers throughout the season.
Her impact extended beyond the court, with Jones named captain following a vote by her teammates, reflecting the respect she had within the squad and her outstanding leadership qualities.
A decorated international, Jones earned 30 caps for Wales in football while also captaining the Welsh national netball team. Her international netball career included competing at two Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Netball World Cup.
Since retiring from playing, Jones has established herself as a respected sports broadcaster, working with the BBC teams covering the 2022 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 finals.
Her induction celebrates a remarkable contribution to Welsh sport, both on and off the court.
Everyone at NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball congratulates Nia on this fantastic and well-deserved honour.
