NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball sign Phoebe Maslen for remainder of 2026 season

NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball have secured the signing of mid-courter Phoebe Maslen as permanent replacement player for the rest of the season, following the unfortunate season ending injury to Cassie Howard.

Maslen joins the Rhinos from London Pulse’s NXT Gen programme, where she has impressed with her consistent performances. Comfortable at centre and wing defence, she brings energy, athleticism and leadership qualities to the squad, captaining the Pulse NXT Gen squad.

Speaking on joining NIC Leeds Rhinos, Maslen said: “I’m really excited to be joining Leeds Rhinos for the remainder of the season. Lauren got in touch and invited me into training with the squad, and I was delighted when the opportunity to come on board came from that.

“I’m looking forward to competing week in, week out in the Netball Super League, playing alongside and against top-level players, and continuing to build my experience on that stage.

“I hope to bring speed, vision and creativity in attack, as well as a relentless defensive work rate, and I’m excited to contribute to the team in any way I can.”

On the International stage, Maslen captained England U21s to victory at the 2023 Europe Netball U21 Championship in Sheffield. Leading a young squad, she started all three matches as England recorded wins over Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland to secure the title. The tournament marked her first international experience at U21 level, making the achievement of captaining the side to gold even more significant for her.

During that campaign, Maslen also played alongside current Rhinos teammates Harriet Jones and Marlene Lange, adding some familiarity as she enters the Rhinos camp.

Earlier in her career, Maslen represented Team Bath in the Netball Super League and has balanced her netball progression alongside her Physiological Science studies at the University of Bristol.

Head Coach Lauren Palmer said: “I'm delighted to welcome Phoebe into our Rhinos environment. She has been performing consistently well in the NXT Gen programme and has integrated seamlessly into the group. Having previously worked with Phoebe within the England pathway, I know what an incredible athlete and talent she is and I’m looking forward to working with her again.

“While we are disappointed to lose Cassie to injury, she remains an important part of the group and continues to contribute her experience in a new off-court capacity.”
