Goal Keeper of the year Jasmine Brown switches to NIC Rhinos Netball
NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball have revealed the signing of Yorkshire-born goal keeper Jasmine Brown after an outstanding 2025 season that saw her named the Netball Super League team of the Season and named in the Roses programme.
Born in Doncaster, she has Australian and Jamaican heritage, and only switched to playing netball six years ago, having dedicated her early sporting career to tennis.
Her first taste of netball was at Doncaster Rebels before joining Charnwood after moving to the Midlands to study sports psychology at Loughborough University. Here she won back-to-back BUCS titles.
She made her Netball Super League debut in 2023 for Severn Stars and last year was part of the first Birmingham Panthers squad. Her club form earned her a call up for the Future Roses squad for 2024-25. She was also named in the England A squad as part of the Vitality Roses’ preparations for the Vitality Netball Nations Cup in January 2025.
Speaking about signing for the Rhinos, Brown said: “It feels special to sign for the Rhinos, I think with a club being close to home as well. It feels nice to play for a Yorkshire side as a Yorkshire girl myself. It's been a club that I've been wanting to play for a few years that I've been eyeing up. I think it's kind of just aligned nicely this year in terms of the girls that are in the squad already and the defensive unit that we have. It's going to be exciting.
“Yeah, Lauren’s vision and the way she was describing it to me was something that I wanted to be a part of. And the girls that she had in mind who, who she wanted to sign. I'm just really excited to play with not only the squad of 10, but definitely the defensive unit is very exciting. And I'm really excited for you all to see what we have in store.
“For me, I definitely want to get into a finals position, so top four and I would like to lift up a medal and a trophy at the end of the year. Just to get a top four position would be really exciting. I don't think it's ever been done for the Rhinos, which will be cool to be a part of history with that. “I'm really excited to see you all and meet you all and meet new faces this year. I think just to put on this yellow and blue dress, I'm going to do it for you guys as well. I’ll hopefully you guys see you all soon."
NIC Rhinos Netball head coach, Lauren Palmer, added: “I’m massively excited to welcome Jas Brown to the NIC Rhinos. She brings a strong physical presence, impressive foot speed, and the ability to contest ball both inside and outside the circle.
“Jas is a vocal leader at the back and someone who leads by example with her intensity and commitment. I can’t wait to start working with her and add more layers to her game — she’s a brilliant addition to our defensive group and our wider team environment.”
