NIC Leeds Rhinos Netball Awards Night 2025

The NIC Leeds Rhinos Awards Night took place on Saturday 26th July in the elegant Howard Suite of AMT Headingley Stadium.

 

The evening began with the Yorkshire Netball ONE Awards, celebrating outstanding individuals across the region. The winners were:

Following these awards, attention turned to the NXT Gen Awards, beginning with a brief Q&A from NXT Gen Head Coach Francine Hall

Coaches’ Player of the Season went to Abi Conway, recognised for her consistently high-level performances throughout the year.

Players’ Player of the Season was awarded to Sasha Howard, chosen by her teammates as the player they’d always want beside them on court for her unwavering commitment, teamwork, and influence across the season.

The final NXT Gen award, Rising star award, was presented to Rose Bridson, selected by NSL and NXT Gen coaches for demonstrating remarkable growth and potential over the past year.

The evening then progressed to the NSL NIC Leeds Rhinos Awards, starting with the Fans’ Player of the Season. With an impressive 48% of the vote, Cassie Howard claimed the award for the second year running.

Next, the Spirit of the Rhino Award was presented to Gerry Plant, a figure recognised across players, staff, and directors for truly embodying the Leeds Rhinos spirit, going above and beyond both on and off the court.

Coaches’ Player of the Season was awarded to Joyce Mvula for her exceptional performances and influence within the squad.

Mvula was also won the Maggie Birkinshaw Club Champion Award, celebrating not only performances but also outstanding conduct, dedication, and contribution to the club.

The final award of the night, Players’ Player of the Season, was again presented to Cassie Howard, recognised by her fellow teammates as a standout performer, appreciated for her 100% effort in training, matches, and overall mindset.

Although all official awards had been presented, the evening concluded with several special acknowledgements

A tribute was made to Geva Mentor, who announced her retirement this year following a phenomenal 24-year professional career. NIC Leeds Rhinos were honoured to host such a legendary figure in her final season. With titles won globally and a Commonwealth Gold with the Vitality Roses, Mentor’s legacy and influence on the sport are unmatched.

Immense gratitude was expressed to Gerry Plant and Maggie Birkinshaw, who have stepped down from their roles following the NSL season. As Team manager and Assistant coach respectively, both have been pillars of the NIC Leeds Rhinos family. Their tireless work, passion, and commitment have been vital in shaping the team, and they leave as true ambassadors of the sport and the club.
